FAQs

What are probiotics?

Probiotics are live micro-organisms (usually bacteria) which can provide health benefits. In order to provide these health benefits, probiotics need to be able to survive the acidic environment of the stomach and reach the gastrointestinal tract. PCC®, the active ingredient in Progastrim® meets these requirements and has been tested in clinical trials in Australia.

How many live PCC® bacteria are there in each Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C capsule?

There is a minimum of 2 billion live bacteria at the end of shelf life (two years after manufacture of the product) in each Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C capsule.

Why are there only 2 billion bacteria in Progastrim® when other products have many more live bacteria?

Clinical studies have shown 2 billion PCC® to be very effective. PCC® is highly resistant to stomach acids, and so, it gets to the intestinal tract alive. A proven clinical dose of 2 billion highly effective probiotics is better than hundreds of billions of untested generic organisms.

Where and how should I store Bioxyne’s probiotic products

All Bioxyne’s probiotic products should be stored in the refrigerator at 2-8oC to maintain optimal potency of the PCC® bacteria.

Can children take Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C?

Provided they are old enough to swallow capsules, children can take Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C. For infants, we recommend proTract® for Atopic Dermatitis. proTract for Atopic Dermatitis  comes in openable capsules that contain PCC® (1 billion CFU). These must be opened and sprinkled on food or formula.

Are Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C safe to consume while pregnant or nursing?

Yes, they are safe to consume while pregnant or nursing

Are Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C safe for diabetics?

Yes, Progastrim® is safe for diabetics

I am taking oral antibiotics. Should I take Progastrim® or Progastrim® + Vitamin C too?

A side effect of oral antibiotic therapy is that it can adversely affect your digestive flora, wiping out your colonies of good bacteria. As a result, one of the most common complaints regarding oral antibiotic therapy is diarrhoea. Taking a probiotic supplement like Progastrim® can help replenish your good flora, relieving the gastric upset. Remember to take your probiotic supplement at least two hours after your antibiotic dose. This way, the antibiotics do not destroy the good bacteria in the supplement. Continue taking your probiotic supplement for at least two weeks after you have finished your course of antibiotics and generally on an ongoing basis to boost immune health

Can I take Progastrim® with my vitamin pills?

Yes, Progastrim® can be taken with vitamin supplements. In fact, we have developed Progastrim® + Vitamin C that combines PCC®, vitamin C and zinc to boost your immune system three separate ways, and combines this in one convenient capsule.
